Desktop app

The TMC app — install mods in one click, browse servers with real latency, install and play TMC's own games, and keep up with your friends and parties, on Linux, Windows and macOS.

The TMC app is the site’s desktop client. It does what the website cannot do from inside a browser: put files into a game’s folder, measure latency to a server from your machine, and start a game as a real program.

Games and playing

A page per game, installing and launching TMC’s own games, and joining a server from a link.

Friends and parties

Who is online and where, friend requests, party invites and the party you are in.

Updates

How the app updates itself, the stable and beta channels, and why every update is signature-checked.

Installing

Downloads are on the app’s page and on the GitHub releases.

  • Linux — one line, no root: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/modcommunity/tmc-app/main/scripts/install.sh | sh. It checks the download against the release’s checksums, installs into ~/.local, and registers the launcher entry and the tmc:// link scheme. … | sh -s -- --uninstall removes it. AppImage and .deb builds are also published.
  • Windows — the setup.exe or .msi installer. The portable .exe runs without installing, and so does not register the tmc:// scheme: links from the website will not open it.
  • macOS — the .dmg.

Signing in

The app signs in with a device code: it shows a short code, you approve it on the website while signed in, and the app receives its own token. It never sees your password, and you can revoke it under Account → Sessions — see Keys and integrations and, for the protocol, App API authentication.

What it does

  • Mods. One-click install and uninstall for games that support it, and sandboxes — named mod profiles per game, each with its own load order and deployment method. Switching sandboxes does not re-download anything.
  • Servers. A server browser with real-time latency measured from your machine, status and latency charts, RCON with history, and one-click connect where the game supports it.
  • Games. Every game has its own page, and TMC’s own games are installed, updated and launched by the app, joining over UDP by default (with a setting for TCP/WebSocket) or running Solo with no server — see Games and playing.
  • Friends and parties. The same friends and parties the website and the games themselves show — see Friends and parties.

The app and the website are one account

Subscriptions, friends, parties and statistics live on the site, not in the app. Anything you do in one shows up in the other, and uninstalling the app loses nothing but its local files and sandboxes.
