Two names
- username
The stable handle. It appears in your profile URL and is what people type to find you. Case-insensitively unique —
Ashleyandashleycannot be two accounts.A brand-new account is given a generated one (
modder_1a2b3c4d) rather than being left without, so there is never a state where your profile cannot be linked to.- name
The display name — what people read. Also unique, case-insensitively.
Your profile lives at /u/<id>-<username>. The id is what makes the link
survive a rename.
Avatar
Uploaded like any other file, and owned by you. Removing it falls back to a generated placeholder rather than a blank.
What your profile shows
Each of these is a switch, on by default, under Account → Privacy:

Your own sections
A profile carries more than a bio:
- Articles — anything you have published under your own name
- Content — your mods, assets, servers, collections and groups
- Activity — what you have been doing, if you show it
- Friends and Followers
- Media — your gallery contributions
- Status updates — short posts, which take comments and ratings of their own
